Liveblogging the Snow Sessions

So…I’m stuck in Baltimore. My flight to Atlanta was overbooked and I got bumped to give other people seats who needed to get home. Thus, I’ve got time to do some recording with Justin. We’ve got a couple of cool songs we were working on earlier in the week that might actually work out today.

Here we go! Let the liveblogging commence!

1:42 PM – We finally got ourselves out of bed and fed. Instruments are actually out and being played. – Mark

1:47 PM – After five minutes of playing, we realize that we are still out of tune. This is probably my fault. – Mark

2:03 PM – We jam on “Go to Sleep” for 15 minutes until my hand gets tired. I remember when practicing used to be less exhuasting. – Mark

Mark’s fingers got worn out before we made it to the outro, which was really the whole point of me wanting to play the lead part on “Go to Sleep”. – Justin

2:05 PM – Here’s how it goes, Mark, don’t get lost:

2:08 PM – We play this through successfully once and I collapse from exhaustion. – Mark

2:19 PM – A rough draft of “End of Days” is coming together. Here’s how it goes, Justin, don’t get lost:

2:41 PM – The song seems to be coming together. We’ll try it with the metronome. – Mark

3:37 PM – Base guitar track done, chorus vocals done, chorus lead guitar done. We await Justin’s work on the fill/bridge. One perfect track was ruined by me typing this. Whoops. – Mark

3:41 PM – Luckily, Justin gets it right on the next try. Whew. I thought we were going to have to put a beer in him. – Mark

4:26 PM – Justin’s wrapped up the parts he needs to do (lead fills, etc), so he’s going to try to get some actual work done today. I’ll keep sluggin away at the verses and mixing. – Mark

5:49 PM – The snow continues to fall and I’ve pretty much got the choruses done. I still need to write/record the verses and bridge, but hopefully that won’t take too long. – Mark

12:12 AM – After some serious mixing, a trip to a Baltimore bar, a few Natty Oh’s (google it), and a whole lot of trying, I have a basic mix…minus the verse vocals. I’ll keep pushing on them, but I think I’m ready to call this recording session done. – Mark
